About 2 months ago I forwarded an e petition to everyone i could regarding the governments new plans to make mandatory the use and installation of noise control devices in ALL music venues across the country!

If you’ve never seen one of these devices they basically cut the power to the stage mains supply if the noise in the venue rises above a certain level, on principal a good idea – THE PROBLEM IS – I’ve seen these units set so that the normal background noise of people chatting can set them off and BOOM – no music, no band, no venue!

So there was an en e petition on the “number 10″ website, i signed it and so did a lot of people i know and contacted AND THEN a few days ago i got a reply in my inbox saying the government had responded to the petition and here’s the opening line from the response;

“We are pleased to tell you that there is no truth in claims that the Government is planning to introduce a requirement for entertainment venues to fit noise control devices.”

This is a great response, its a bit panto (“oh no we didn’t!, oh yes we did!) but it shows that (irony warning!) if we make enough noise we can be heard and you should take every opportunity to tell your government what to do with your tax money (or your parents tax money) :-)

And just so you know, I only do politics when it comes knocking on my door so don’t worry, normal guitary blogs will resume immediately.

thanks for checking back guys,

JD

    phew iv been to venues where there is a noise control thingy (albeit only siberia) and considiring that siberia is in a cellar thats just confuses everyone and makes them scared,plus its a tiny venue and they regulary get 50+ people in there thats more of a saftey hazard than a few people getting ringing ears the next day
    in my opinon anyway…

    glad to see the site coming along nicely iv been using that metronome to get my scales faster its pretty good,and i downloaded open office the other day as well so i can use the spreadsheety thing to chart my progress. iv not seen zeitgeist yet though but iv been watching snippets of it on youtube but i think if i watch anymore of it
    then i might just become one of those anarchist terrorist kind of people so maybe its in the best intrests of everyone that i dont watch it haha

    Hi John it’s Nick (Rusty/Reload) it’s funny you mentioning about the noise control devices as Rusty did a gig on Saturday night with one. Luckily this one was reasonable and wasn’t that sensitive, it seemed to me more bass end led particularly bass drum. We got told that this one could flick into the red all night as long as it didn’t permanently stay in the red for more than 10 seconds then it’s lights out so it seemed reasonable but I know which kind of ones your on about. I spoke to Jogn Grogan about them too and he said he’s had some bad experiences with them. To me a reasonable volume can be reached with the input of the audience, although the meter does keep shut the people who’d moan even if talking was too loud!!
    Anyways nice website, good video’s and even your local accent doesn’t shine through that much ha ha, keep up the good stuff.
    Catch you soon,
    Nick
